Questo Museo è stato ricavato nell’edificio di un ex fabbrica del vetro, da qui la sensibilità e l’interesse verso questo materiale e il desiderio di conservarne la storia. Particolarità del lavoro, realizzato da Logon Architecture, è la facciata principale: è stata realizzata con un particolare tipo di vetro importato dalla Germania, sabbiato e smaltato: la facciata grazie a questo trattamento è nera e sulla superficie sono state scritte parole in lingue diverse, espressione del desiderio di diventare un polo culturale a livello internazionale. Queste scritte sono illuminate a LED: un dettaglio che di sera conferisce al Museum of Glass una luce magica.

Il progetto di lighting design è stato curato nei minimi dettagli, la retroilluminazione dà luce alla struttura dall’interno, aggiungendo un senso di profondità all’edificio. All’interno del Museo, nelle stanze espositive, sono stati posizionati degli schermi che raccontano ai visitatori l’origine del vetro e regalano esperienze interattive e percorsi multi direzionali.

Il Museo of Glass è stato realizzato in collaborazione con il Coordination Asia, un’organizzazione impegnata nella progettazione di musei e organizzazione di mostre. Questo progetto è parte di un piano di riqualificazione molto più ampio che pone Shanghai come un centro culturale e creativo d’ importanza internazionale.
Questo l’obiettivo a cui la città cinese punta e, per raggiungerlo, ha in programma la realizzazione di ben cento musei da qui ai prossimi dieci anni. Un programma ambizioso che, per una delle città più influenti e importanti a livello mondiale, potrebbe diventare realtà.

This Museum was built inside the building of a former glass manufacturing plant, justifying the sensibility and interest towards this material and the desire to preserve its history. A peculiar feature of the work, created by Logon Architecture, is its main façade: it was created with a special type of sandblasted and polished glass imported directly from Germany. Thanks to this treatment the façade’s surface looks like a black canvas with words written in different languages, expressing the city’s desire of becoming an international cultural hub. These words are illuminated with LEDs: a detail that, at night, gives the Museum of Glass a magical light.
The lighting design project was carefully crafted with attention to detail, and back-illumination lights up the structure from the inside, adding a sense of depth to the building. Inside the Museum, in the exhibition areas, there are screens that explain the origin of glass and provide visitors with interactive experiences and multi-directional paths.

The Museum of Glass was developed in collaboration with Coordination Asia, an organisation engaged in museum design and event organisation. This project is part of a wider redevelopment plan that intends to turn Shanghai into a cultural and creative centre with an international importance.
And the Chinese city intends to achieve this objective by opening one hundred museums over the next ten years. An ambitious dream that could soon become reality for one of the world’s most influential and important cities.

The first museum that will help make Shanghai become an intellectual reference point was recently inaugurated. It is the Museum of Glass in the industrial district of the city of Baoshan, 6,250 square meters ready to host exhibitions as well as conferences, lectures and workshops. The lead of this important architectonic project is glass: several debate and meetings will be dedicated to this material, its application and its history and the building will also host workshops and showrooms to show glass-making techniques.
