Una scultura luminosa bagnata dal Mare della Costa Azzurra a Nizza. Un progetto alto 22 metri che riflette le luci delle barche e della sera. E ospita all’interno spazi espositivi: si chiama Sosno Art Gallery, è una galleria progettata dallo scultore francese Sosno e dall’architetto lituano Rytis Daukantas.

La struttura spicca per la trasparenza e per la particolarità architettonica. L’Art Gallery è una rivisitazione su grande scala della scultura “La paille dans l’œil du voisin” (La paglia nell’occhio del vicino) realizzata dal francese Sosno: raffigura un busto e un volto tagliato – lungo l’asse verticale – da un blocco in legno dalla forma rettangolare.

L’edificio sarà realizzato completamente in vetro. Le sale e gli spazi espositivi saranno molto luminosi. Per creare però un suggestivo gioco di luci e ombre, verranno applicate delle lamelle in legno per richiamare anche la scultura originale. Di giorno la Sosno Art Gallery rifletterà la luce del sole, mentre di sera l’illuminazione artificiale realizzata con sorgenti di ultima generazione sarà proiettata all’esterno e rispecchiata nel Mare della Costa.

A luminous sculpture along the Côte d’Azur in Nice; a 22-metre tall structure reflecting the lights of the boats and of the city and a building that hosts prestigious exhibition spaces: it is the Sosno Art Gallery, a building designed by the French sculptor Sosno and the Lithuanian architect Rytis Daukantas.

The structure stands out for its transparency and architectural peculiarity. The Art Gallery is a large scale adaptation of a sculpture called “La paille dans l’œil du voisin” [the straw in the neighbour’s eye] by the French Sosno: it represents a bust and a face intersected vertically by a rectangular wooden beam.

The building will be built entirely in glass, making the rooms and the exhibition spaces brighter. However, to create the fascinating play of light and shades, special lamellar beams of wood will be applied to recall the original structure. During the day the Sosno Art Gallery will collect sunshine, while at evenings the artificial lighting created with latest generation LEDs radiating outside will reflect the sea of the French Riviera.

From the architectural point of view, the play of volumes and intersections of the original sculpture is reproduced. The shoulders and the face are the central part of the Gallery, which will develop on different levels and host several conference halls. The structure in glass and wood, which crosses the central area and looks as if it is barely hanging in the air, almost suspended in the void, will host the exhibitions.
