La scena del design berlinese ferve più che mai. Da giugno a ottobre la capitale della Germania è teatro di eventi che hanno per tema la creatività applicata alla vita di tutti i giorni, alla moda, alla musica e anche alla luce, che s’inserisce in questo contesto di vivacità del pensiero con un evento speciale. Da sette anni, il festival delle luci è in autunno (www.festival-of-lights.de) e per due settimane d’ottobre (12-23 ottobre 2011), al calar del sole, trasforma la città sul fiume Spree in uno show incredibile in un itinerario che tocca 70 punti, dalla porta di Brandeburgo alla torre della Tv, fino alla cattedrale. Gli autobus “light seeing” ma anche barche e velotaxi vi portano in giro tra gli spettacoli. Poi Berlino è sinonimo di creatività e nuove idee tutto l’anno. Vent’anni dopo la caduta del Muro, la città si è affermata come capitale del design e nel 2006 l’Unesco le ha conferito il titolo ufficiale di “Città del Design”. Sono fiorite in gran numero agenzie, atelier, showroom, fiere e altre piattaforme di vendita, il cui mood è non-convenzionalità e qualità dei prodotti, nei quali spesso le linee pulite assumono un carattere avanguardista.
L’evento più importante per i prodotti di design contemporaneo è il DMY – Festival internazionale di design (www.dmy-berlin.com). Circa 700 creativi provenienti da oltre 30 nazioni presentano, dall’1 al 5 giugno quest’anno, le prossime tendenze. Da due edizioni il festival si tiene negli hangar dell’ex aeroporto Tempelhof. La mostra è di consuetudine affiancata da un gran numero di eventi speciali che coinvolgono gli studi di design, le gallerie, i musei e le ambasciate situate nel quartiere Berlin Mitte.

The exiting Berlin design scene is thriving more than ever. From June to October the German capital will be the stage for a number of events that celebrate creativity applied to everyday life, to fashion, to music and even to light, all integrated within a context of brightness of thought, presented during a very special event. For seven years, the festival of lights has been held in autumn (www.festival-of-lights.de) and for two weeks throughout October (12-23 October 2011), at sunset, it has been transforming the city along the Spree River into an incredible showcase of artworks through a journey that stops at 70 city landmarks, from Brandenburg Gate, to the TV Tower, and to the Cathedral. The “light seeing” buses, as well as the ferry boats and velo-taxis will take visitors around the many light installations. But Berlin is synonym for creativity and new ideas all year long. Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the city is recognized as a design capital, awarded by Unesco as the “City of Design” in 2006. Today the city hosts a great number of firms, ateliers, showrooms, trade fairs and other sale platforms, characterized by an unconventional mood and quality products, where clean-cut lines often assume a futurist character.
The most important event for contemporary design is the DMY – the International Festival of Design (www.dmy-berlin.com). Almost 700 creative minds from over 30 countries will present future trends from 1 to 5 June. The last two editions of the festival were held in the hangers of the former Tempelhof airport. The main exhibition is usually complemented by a great number of special events that involve design firms, art galleries, museums and the embassies in Berlin-Mitte.
