La luce, non solamente nel senso stretto della parola. Ecco il tema che caratterizzerà la biennale d’arte di Venezia di quest’anno.
Con le opere di 83 artisti provenienti da tutto il mondo, il 4 giugno si è ufficialmente aperta al pubblico la 54/a edizione della Biennale d’Arte, che rimarrà aperta fino al 27 novembre.
Diretta per la prima volta da una donna, Bice Curiger, storica d’arte, critica e curatrice di mostre a livello internazionale.
L’Esposizione punta sulla presenza femminile e sulle nuove generazioni.
Infatti tra gli artisti presenti 32 sono giovani nati dopo il 1975 e altrettante sono le presenze femminili. Anche se, ad accogliere il pubblico, ci sono i tre capolavori cinquecenteschi del Tintoretto,il così detto pittore della luce.

La mostra intitolata “ILLUMInazioni”, sarà un percorso dove il segno contemporaneo abbraccia la sperimentazione, ma anche la riscoperta dei linguaggi della tradizione: pittura, scultura, fotografia, capaci oggi di svelare il loro potenziale latente.
Sarà allestita al Padiglione Centrale ai Giardini e all’Arsenale formando un unico percorso espositivo, partendo dal ‘500 veneto, padre della prima illuminazione sulla via dell’arte.
La Mostra sarà affiancata, come di consueto, negli storici Padiglioni ai Giardini, all’Arsenale e nel centro storico di Venezia, da 89 Partecipazioni nazionali, numero record per la Biennale d’Arte .
Il Padiglione Italia all’Arsenale sarà curato da Vittorio Sgarbi.
Le nazioni presenti per la prima volta saranno Andorra, Arabia Saudita, Bangladesh, Haiti. Altri paesi parteciperanno quest’anno dopo una lunga assenza: India, Congo, Iraq, Zimbabwe, Sudafrica, Costa Rica, Cuba.
Saranno 37 gli Eventi collaterali proposti da enti e istituzioni internazionali, che allestiranno le loro mostre e le loro iniziative in vari luoghi della città in concomitanza con la Biennale.

Light, not just in the strict meaning of the word. This is the theme that will distinguish this year’s Venice Art Biennale.
With works by 83 artists from all over the world, the 54th Art Biennale officially opened to the public on 4th June and will stay open until 27th November.
Managed for the first time by a woman, Bice Curiger, art historian, critic and curator of exhibitions of an international calibre.
The exhibition focuses on the female presence and on new generations.
Of the artists on show 32 are young, born after 1975, and the female presence is equally numerous. However, three sixteenth-century masterpieces by Tintoretto, the so-called painter of light, are on display to the public.

The exhibition called ILLUMInazioni will be where the contemporary embraces experimentation, as well as rediscovering traditional forms: painting, sculpture and photography, now capable of revealing their latent potential.
It will be set up in the Central Pavilion at Giardini and Arsenale, forming a unique exhibition that begins with sixteenth-century Veneto, the father of early illumination in the field of art.
The exhibition will go hand in hand, as is usually the case, in the historic Pavilions at Giardini and Arsenale and in the historic centre of Venice, with 89 nations present, a record for the Art Biennale.
The Italy Pavilion at Arsenale will be managed by Vittorio Sgarbi.
The nations featuring for the first time will include Andorra, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh and Haiti. Other countries will be taking part this year after a long period of absence: India, Congo, Iraq, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Costa Rica and Cuba.
There will be 37 Side Events proposed by international institutions and associations, which will set up their exhibitions and initiatives in various places in the city in conjunction with the Biennale.
