THE MEDIA AND THE FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION IN THE ARAB WORLD AFTER THE 2011 REVOLUTIONS

Il Master in Economia e Gestione della Comunicazione e dei Media dell’Università di Roma Tor Vergata, in occasione dell’Inaugurazione della XI Edizione – Anno Accademico 2012-2013, e la Scuola Superiore di Polizia organizzano la “Communication and Media Lecture” dal titolo “The Media and the Freedom of Expression in the Arab World after the 2011 Revolutions” tenuta da Mr. Khalid Hamad Al-Malik, Direttore di Al Jazeera Newspaper.
L’incontro, che si terrà giovedì 21 marzo 2013, dalle 15.00 alle 17.00, presso Economia Tor Vergata, Aula Tesi, Edificio A, Via Columbia 2, 00133 Roma, sarà introdotto da Sergio Cherubini, Direttore del Master in Economia e Gestione della Comunicazione e dei Media, e Roberto Sgalla, Direttore della Scuola Superiore di Polizia.
L’evento costituirà un’importante occasione per ascoltare una tematica rilevante per equilibri e dinamiche internazionali direttamente dalla viva voce dei protagonisti. Sarà altresì un costruttivo momento di avvicinamento fra culture ancora a volte diffidenti e lontane l’una dell’altra.
Mr. Khalid Hamad Al-Malik, vice-presidente dell’Associazione Giornalistica Saudita dal 2004, è stato Direttore di Al Jazeera Newspaper dal 1972 al 1985 e di nuovo dal 1999 ad oggi, contribuendo a farne il capofila dei quotidiani arabi, con più di 160 mila copie vendute ogni giorno.   • Born in Al Rass, Qassim at 1942
  • Finished his primary stage in Al Rass, then completed his study in Riyadh.
  • Had many courses in KSA and United States.
  • He worked in several governmental departments as the Commercial Department and Bureau of Grievance.
  • Started his work as a journalist as an editor in Riyadh Newspaper, Yamamah Magazine and Al-Jazirah Newspaper.
  • He has articles in most of the Saudi newspapers.
  • In 1972, he became the editor in chief of Al-Jazirah newspaper and for 13 years. In that period Al-jazirah turned to a daily newspaper instead of a weekly one.
  • He published the “Masa’iah” which was a nightly publishing
  • newspaper at 1982. he was supervising its editorial team until it stopped at 2001.
  • Board member of Al-Jazirah newspaper board of directors.

  • Board member of several educational and charity associations
  • He was recommended to establish the National Company for Distribution, which is owned by several newspapers, and held the position of general manager for six years.
  • He has represented the Kingdom in international conferences. He also participated in cultural seminars and gave lectures in Saudi Arabia and internationally.
  • Two books were published for him during the last seven years. Once again he came to Al-Jazirah newspaper to hold the position of the Editor in Chief at 1999, after fifteen years of leaving the position.
  • Upon his back, he managed to published 4 different issues to be distributed with the daily newspaper which are: The International Issue, The Digital World Magazine, The Cultural Magazine and Al Jazirah Magazine.
  • He had been elected for the position of vice chairman of the Saudi Journalists Association upon its establishment at 2004.
  • He had been elected for the position of vice chairman of Riyadh Schools Board, in which Prince Salman Ibn Abdul Aziz is the honorary chairman.
