Due rettangoli, uno progettato di fianco all’altro. Due strutture dalle forme decise, realizzate in vetro ai piedi di una collina affacciata sul mare nell’incantevole paesaggio di Biarritz. É il Cite de l’oceain et du surf, un’area espositiva di 3.800 metri quadrati che ospita anche un auditorium, un ristorante, una caffetteria e uffici.

Giochi di luce e di trasparenza caratterizzano l’architettura firmata da Steven Holl Architects e progettata ai piedi di un pendio, in uno spazio concavo, aperto verso il mare. In una simbolica piazza che riecheggia il concept di progetto: “Under the sky, under the sea”.

La luce del sole filtrata dall’esterno illumina le sale; di sera il lighting project viene riflesso nella baia e trasforma l’edificio in un simbolo elegante e luminoso del landmark.

Particolare la struttura progettata di fronte all’architettura che ricorda le piste degli skateboard. Profilata di vetro trasparente, permette ai turisti di godere di un ottima vista sulla baia e di ammirare le immagini che, al calore del sole, vengono riflesse sulla struttura. E proprio questo gioco di volumi nasconde un percorso illuminato da a Led che porta i visitatori verso l’ingresso.

Arredi white, un interior design soft e apparecchi di illuminazione di ultima generazione caratterizzano l’interior, dove dettagli di stile vengono valorizzati da binari di faretti a Led.

It is the Cité de l’océan et du surf, an exhibition space of 3,800 square meters that also hosts an auditorium, a restaurant, a cafeteria and offices.

A playful mixture of light and transparencies is the main feature of this architectural work signed by Steven Holl Architects and constructed at the feet of a hill, into a concave space, open to the sea. It features a symbolic square area, which evokes the concept behind the project: “Under the sky, under the sea”.

Sunlight filters through the windows into the rooms; during the evening the artificial lighting is reflected into the bay and transforms the building into an elegant and luminous iconic landmark.

Worth mentioning is the structure designed in front of the building that resembles a skateboard park. With a transparent glass profile, it enables tourists to enjoy an excellent view of the bay and admire the landscapes that are reflected into the structure at sunlight. This skilful use of space hides a walkway lit by LED lights that takes visitors to the entrance.
