Da Milano all’Alaska – La creatività originale dell’eclettica Paola Pivi

Internazionale e poliedrica. Brava e riservata.

International and versatile. Successful and private. This is Paola Pivi, a contemporary Italian artist. She was born in Milan in 1971, now lives in Anchorage in Alaska, and is one of the most well-known and exported “Made in Italy” artists.

At the Museo del Novecento, the art gallery created in Milan by the architect Italo Rota in the splendid surroundings of the Palazzo dell’Arengario, the most recent creation by the eclectic Pivi, “Nice Ball”, was on display up to the end of June.

“Nice Ball” is an original and unique lamp, covered in miniature chairs by Vitra, the company that creates design furniture and interior decoration. The work is made up of approximately 80 miniatures, set on a slender structure in aluminium and the chairs, reproduced in minute detail on a scale of 1:6, recount the international history of design from 1820 to the present time.

More than a design object, “Nice Ball” is a work of art, a sculpture that illuminates and decorates at the same time. The boundaries between art and design are ever more shadowy, the alliance between these two worlds ever stronger, and this art creation by Pivi is a fine example.

The work reached Milan, the capital of design, after being displayed in other important art cities. It had been created on the occasion of the WYSTAWA exhibition organized by the German critic, Susanne Pfeffer at the Warsaw Museum of Modern Art and was presented at the one-artist exhibition “What goes round – art comes round” at the Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin in Paris.
