La galleria Biscoff/Weiss di Londra ha da poco presentato la seconda mostra personale dell’artista inglese Nathaniel Rackowe dal titolo “Luminous Territories”, in cui l’artista approfondisce il suo interesse per il paesaggio urbano e la luce artificiale.
Il perno della mostra è Luminous Territory (2007), un progetto costituito da una struttura rettangolare che occupa quasi tutto lo spazio, creando così un percorso obbligato lungo il perimetro della stessa.
Rackowe in quest’opera utilizza materiali generici di costruzione che “disegnano” i paesaggi urbani, illuminati dal getto tremulo della luce, che evoca la “disfunzione” degli spazi abbandonati. Anche se apparentemente casuale, la luce diventa coreografia con dozzine di punti fluorescenti che vibrano, animando la struttura e contrapponendosi alla staticità della stessa.

In this work, Rackowe uses generic building materials that “sketch” urban landscapes lit by flickering light, which evokes the “inefficiency” of deserted spaces. Although apparently casual, light takes on a spectacular quality through dozens of vibrating fluorescent dots that animate the structure, contrasting its immobility. The installation Luminous Territory interacts with other installations/sculptures. Amongst other works, WLP4 is a black structure characterized by a crack, which contains a powerful light bulb that slowly increases its luminosity, extending its presence beyond the physical boundaries of space.
