Thanks to a recent innovative service called TELECity (Telecommunications, Energy, Light&Economy for the City), which incorporates Wi-fi devices into the lighting systems, the Municipality will considerably improve management of its public lighting network, thereby also reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

It has been known for a long time that it is important to target energy efficiency in order to reduce the emissions by 2020. In this municipality, the project seems to have taken a decidedly firm stand. The contract, worth a total of 1.4 million EUR over 20 years, will allow the Administration to make cuts of 175 tons of CO2 and 4,520 TOE (tons of oil equivalent) in energy per year, while offering organizations and citizens better accessibility to broadband.

The creation of the TELECity service in Pastena, the first Municipality in Italy, combines energy saving and technological innovation in an efficient system that will overturn the classic way of lighting up the town. In fact, thanks to the widespread installation of wireless transmission electronic cards inside the lights, total coverage of the municipal territory will be guaranteed, hence considerably reducing the number of aerials installed and, as a result, also minimizing electro-magnetic pollution.
