Strutture temporanee e architetture riconvertibili. Le Olimpiadi di Londra pensano al futuro. Il Parco Olimpico ospiterà i progetti di archistar e firme internazionali, installazioni e opere d’arte, ma anche progetti greencaratterizzati da una forte anima sostenibile.

I londinesi Make Architects e Arup&Partners firmano l’Handball Arena. A differenza degli altri progetti, la struttura è caratterizzata da un profilo lineare, pulito e ortogonale: un progetto semplice, pronto a riconvertirsi, al termine delle gare, per ospitare eventi e manifestazioni di diverso genere. La particolarità dell’edificio è, però, la base inferiore che è stata realizzata completamente in vetro: il profilo è così caratterizzato da grandi vetrateche consentono un’illuminazione e una ventilazione naturale.

Come una scatola a forma rettangolare, nella parte superiore è delimitata da diversi lucernai che, non solo sono stati disposti quasi a creare un particolare gioco geometrico, ma contribuiscono a illuminare in modo naturale il campo da gioco e le tribune degli spettatori. L’Handball Arena è rivestita con rame riciclato; all’interno le tribune sono caratterizzate da sedili a scomparsa che sottolineano il carattere flessibile e l’elasticità del building.

Temporary sculptures and reusable architecture. The Olympic Games are organised with an eye to the future. The Olympic Park will host the work by international star architects, as well as installations and art work, and green projects characterised by a strong sustainable soul.

The London-based Make Architects and Arup&Partners signed the Handball Arena. Unlike the other projects, this venue is characterised by a linear, clean-cut and octagonal structure: it is a simple project, designed to be easily reused after the Olympics to host different kinds of events and shows. The key element of this building is, however, the lower base made entirely in glass: the main elements are the large windows that allow natural lighting and ventilation.

Like a rectangular box, the upper part is marked by several roof lights that were arranged in such a way as to create a special geometry to naturally illuminate the pitch and the spectators’ stands. The Handball Arena is covered with recycled copper; internally, the stands are characterised by retractable seats that further highlightthe building’s flexibility and resilience.
