“La luce è il colore con cui dipingo la mia tela. La luce è anima, la luce è vita. La luce è uno strumento fondamentale“

Sebastiano Romano è scenografo e costumista teatrale; nato a Siracusa, la sua creatività ha raggiunto i confini internazionali; nel suo curriculum allestimenti, scenografie, concerti, mostre e installazioni. Momenti d’arte in cui la luce è sempre presente: da protagonista a voce narrante, da attore secondario a coprotagonista.

La luce gioca ruoli diversi, ma per Romano è una forma espressiva molto importante. Un esempio le installazioni luminose create in occasione del Baveno Festival: “Prima che inizi l’installazione, la luce presenta agli spettatori l’architettura che diventa il fondale della performance evidenziandone i contorni. Quando entra in scena l’immagine, la luce si mette al suo servizio: pur essendo sempre diretta, è meno forte e invadente”.

In altre situazioni, durante i concerti e gli spettacoli musicali dal vivo, come in occasione de “I colori della musica” (Baveno festival 2009) la luce diventa protagonista: “Alle spalle dei musicisti, costruisco una scenografia dove creo sequenze di luci che disegnano gli spazi del fondale e creano dei volumi. In questo modo il fondale non è piatto e gli spettatori sono catturati dai continui giochi di luce che cambiano a ritmo della musica”.

Sebastiano Romano is a stage and costume designer; he was born in Siracusa, but his creativity has travelled across borders; his résumé includes set and stage design, concert lighting, exhibitions, and installations. Moments of art where light is always present: either as the protagonist or as back-up, as a secondary character or as a side-kick.

Light plays different roles, but for Romano it is always a very important form of expression. An example is the light installation created for the Baveno Festival: “Before starting the installation, light presents the architecture to spectators becoming the backcloth of the performance itself, enhancing it. When the image enters the scene, light puts itself to its service: though it is direct, it is weaker and less invading”.

In other situations, for example, during concerts and live music shows, such as “I colori della musica” [The Colours of Music] (Baveno festival 2009) light becomes the true protagonist: “behind the musicians, light constitutes the backdrop where it creates sequences of light that draw spaces on the background creating different shapes and volumes. In this way the background is no longer dull and spectators are captured by the continual plays of light that change as music changes”.
