Giuseppe Mestrangelo, a lighting designer and artist, also referred to as a light artist, has been using light in his works since the 1970s, conferring the dual status of ‘work of art’ and ‘work of light’ on his installations. His educational background includes studies in lighting design and lighting physics, the traces of which are visible throughout his entire professional journey in his rather unique working methods that use light in its various forms of creative expression. During the 1980s and 1990s, he applied several lighting techniques to successfully illuminate work of arts, building a bridge between the profession of lighting designer and artistic activity. His work consists in the conceptualisation of the creative “phototonic” factor applied to any form of expression.

The artist is currently exhibiting at the former Pietrasanta distillery plant in Milan, at via Pietrasanta. Here, he will be able to display his special ‘Sutures of Light’ that seem to tie his works together like unique strings of light, completely unavailable on the market, and manufactured exclusively by an Israel-based company, which works with NASA.

Mestrangelo’s works could be equally defined as lighting installations, lighting paintings and lighting sculptures, where different techniques, including photography, are used. As an expert of art works, Mestrangelo has also worked to improve the lighting of some rooms in Vatican Palace, he collaborated with different international art galleries, and has been called to manage custom projects commissioned by leading figures of the fashion world, where he was in charge of the design of private homes and professional studios.
