La Deutsche Bank ha un nuovo quartier generale nella sua sede storica di Francoforte. A firmarlo è l’architetto milanese Mario Bellini che ha radicalmente rinnovato e trasformato le due torri dopo aver vinto, nel dicembre 2006, un concorso internazionale a inviti. Le due torri, da sempre landmark di Francoforte e della finanza mondiale, sono diventate ora una nuova icona di architettura contemporanea. Una sorta di piccola città alla quale si accede attraversando un grande portale, che ricorda un po’ le storiche porte urbane.
Una volta entrati ci si trova subito in una vasta hall, che, proprio come una piazza, è un luogo-chiave, grande e luminoso, alto 22 metri, penetrato in continuità dalle torri visibili attraverso un soffitto trasparente di 18 metri di diametro. Le torri, per di più, sono connesse tra loro grazie alla magia di una sfera di 16 metri formata da 55 anelli di acciaio, che sovrasta la piazza e che si attraversa camminando lungo due ponti. Una sfida artistica, e di ingegneria, destinata a diventare il nuovo simbolo dinamico della Deutsche Bank. Una banca che ha ottenuto le massime certificazioni per quanto riguarda il risparmio energetico e il rispetto dell’ambiente: LEED platinum (americana) e DGNB Gold (tedesca). Questo è un successo che trasforma la sede della Deutsche Bank in un modello esemplare di architettura.

Deutsche Bank has a new head office in its historic location in Frankfurt. The project was signed by the Milanese architect Mario Bellini, who totally renewed and refurbished the building’s twin towers after winning, in December 2006, an international competition by invitation. The two towers, already a landmark for Frankfurt and the world finance, are now a new icon of contemporary architecture. The complex resembles a sort of small town that can be accessed through a huge portal, which reminds of ancient city gates. Once inside, visitors find themselves standing in a large lobby area that, just like a ‘piazza’, becomes the core of the entire complex. The square is huge and bright, 22 meters high, penetrated by the towers, which can be seen through a transparent ceiling with a diameter of 18 meters. Moreover the towers are connected to each other by a 16-meter sphere, formed by 55 steel rings, overlooking the square area that can be walk through by crossing two bridges. An art and engineering challenge that will become the new dynamic symbol of Deutsche Bank. A bank, which has been awarded with the most important certifications in terms of energy-saving and respect for the environment, including the Platinum LEED certification and the German sustainable building certification (DGNB Gold). This is a truly a success story that turns Deutsche Bank’s headquarters into a reference model for outstanding architecture.
