Nasce “The Perlan“, una cupola di vetro e acciaio progettata sopra i serbatoi che raccolgono l’acqua calda che sgorga dal sottosuolo. Siamo nella città di Reykjavík, in Islanda. E sulla collina di Oskjulio è stata realizzata questa grande struttura architettonica dall’anima sostenibile.
Conosciuta anche come “Giardino d’inverno”, la “Perla” copre e ripara le cisterne d’acqua dalla luce del sole. È alta quasi 26 metri e si stende per 10.000 metri cubi di spazio. I serbatoi sono cinque, possono contenere fino a 4 milioni di acqua calda ciascuno. La struttura ha un telaio in acciaio ed è cava all’interno, in questo modo la temperatura rimane costante e garantisce un ottimo isolamento acustico.
All’interno una serie infinita di faretti a Led segue il percorso che dal piano terra porta fino al cielo!
Il vetro sulla cupola diventa anche elemento di design. Al quarto piano, un terrazzo panoramico regala una splendida vista sulla città e qui sono stati aperti negozi, una caffetteria e un ristorante. Un dettaglio, la sala ristorante compie in due ore una rotazione completa di 360° per permettere agli ospiti di godere della splendida vista panoramica
“The Perlan” è una delle strutture più particolari della città, il progetto originario porta la firma di Ingimundur Sveinsson ed è stato realizzato per desiderio di David Oddsson durante il mandato da Sindaco a Reykjavík. Quest’architettura è diventata una delle attrazioni turistiche più visitate dell’Islanda.
Un dettaglio: uno dei cinque serbatoi è stato svuotato per ospitare il Saga Museum, un museo dedicato alla storia dell’Islanda.

The Perlan
A sustainable dome of glass
The Perlan is a dome made of glass and steel designed on top of underground hot water storage tanks. In Reykjavík, Iceland, precisely on the Oskjulio hill, we find a great architectonic structure with a sustainable soul.
Also known for its Winter Garden, this ‘Pearl’ covers and protects water storage tanks from direct sunlight. It is almost 26 metres tall and covers 10,000 cubic meters of space. The five tanks can contain up to 4 million litres of hot water each. The structure has a frame in steel and is hollow in the inside: this allows the temperature to remain the same and guarantees excellent acoustic insulation.

Inside, it has an endless series of LED spotlights spanning from the ground floor up to the sky!
The glass used for the dome also turns into a design element. On the fourth floor, a panoramic terrace offers a wonderful view over the city, where visitors can also find shops, a cafeteria and a restaurant. Just a detail: the restaurant room makes a complete revolution of 360° to enable guests to enjoy a breathtaking view.

The Perlan is one of the most amazing structures in the city, the original design bears the signature of Ingimundur Sveinsson and it was strongly wanted by David Oddsson during his term as Mayor of Reykjavík. Today this structure is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Iceland.
Another detail: one of the five tanks was emptied to host the Saga Museum, a museum dedicated to the history of Iceland.
